TLNT- Chapter 8

This chapter focuses on the many ways that both students and teachers can to communicate by using technology both in and out of the classroom.  Some of these include email, instant messaging, teacher or classroom websites, blogs, online discussions and wikis. Given this large variety the teacher must experiment to see which is the best fit for her classroom needs. This allows the teacher, students and classmates to be in constant contact with each other which fosters learning.  In the world we live in today, children are glued to their phones.  When the teacher utilizes technology with their students they extend the learning environment outside of the class, offers students to never miss an assignment and allow them to use the device that is relevant to them.  Overall this chapter provides many helpful hints for us as educators to incorporate to make learning easy and available.

  1. I agree with you when you state that the teacher needs to see which forms of technology best fit the classroom needs. Every classroom and every group of students is different. It is important to look at student interests and apply that to the classroom. Some students may enjoy playing educational games, while others prefer videos.

  2. I agree with you that this chapter gave alot of helpful ideas for us as educators to use on a daily basis. Your'e right when you say that kids are glued to their phones and all other types of technology, so utilizing social media in and out of the classroom will definitely benefit the students and provide them with outlets to keep up to date with all of their class work, and assignments.

  3. I agree with you when you stated that students are "glued to their phone" this is the perfect opportunity to use technology. Phones have so many features that create reminders to complete assignment as well as searching the internet for additional information. Students can easily review assignment instructions, an instructional video and additional research for their class.

  4. I agree that by utilizing technology, students are able to be up to date with their deadlines, assignments, projects and homeworks. Since students are always using their phones, you can turn this into a benefit by having them use their phone in class to answer questions such as using Kahoot.

TLNT-Chapter-10 Promoting success for ALL students through technology is an interesting chapter which speaks about differentiated instruction (DI) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).  Looking at UDL, students are offered instruction with multiple means of representation, expression and engagement.  The goal of UDL is to provide access for all students with disabilities and individualized options for all.  An example given is how a teacher uses PowerPoint to display vocabulary words and the definitions on the smart board so hearing impaired students can read the information while whole class engage in conversations.  Any other printed materials can also be transformed to digital screens with speech, sounds and pictures.  What a great way to modify materials so students feel included. Tasks Before Apps- Chapter 2 This chapter is one that involves students being creators of their own work.   When students are given the opportunity to learn new material through hands-on learning they are proud, ambitious and take ownership.   Exploring using technology opens doors in many other content areas helping students to make connections in and out of the classroom.   For example, the chapter mentions transferrable skills, which can be applied out of school, through multi-subjects and across disciplines.     Being a student who learns best through hands on learning I appreciate when professors incorporate technology in my class.   The first grade class I am student teaching in incorporates ipads during a reading lesson for differentiation, which is a big help, and change for those struggling to read.   When students have to share their work, teacher take pictures and pull it up on the smart board for the entire class to see.   The stu...

TLNT Chapter-7 Computer games as a learning resource is what stuck out most in this chapter.  As we all know computer, video and web-based games are most popular amongst children.  What a great way to implement computer game programs into lessons.  There are six basic characteristics associated with computer games. Rules Goals & objectives Outcomes & feedback Conflict/competition/challenge/opposition Interaction Representation or story Since computer games come in a variety of formats, knowledge games would work best when implementing a lesson.  Individuals are presented with a type of opposition that must be overcome.  Visual feedback on the individuals actions are given including rewards and accomplishments.  Some examples of math teaching games are Math Blaster, TreasureMathStorm, Numbers Undercover and Sunbuddy Math.
