Chapter 12- Integrating Technology and Creating Change as Teacher Leaders Stages of Technology Integration is what caught my attention when reading this chapter.  This is not an easy process as there are several steps associated to this: The entry stage or substitution stage The adoption stage  Adaptation Appropriation Invention This is a careful process and each step must be implemented correctly.  When looking at the first stage teachers can take homework assignments and have students submit them online.  For example, students can submit their daily journal online instead of writing it in their notebook.  However, there are challenges when integrating technology into the classroom. Teaching style and administration support.   Unwillingness to change favorite lesson plans. Reluctance to use technology in new lesson plans. Rewards and punishments. Ad-on to other activities. Use of technology to separate students by ability groups....

TLNT Chapter-11 This chapter speaks about digital portfolios for teachers, which is what we have to design in this class.  This portfolio is designed by the teacher/individual to include their academics, accomplishments, talents and teaching.  Other materials that can be included are resumes, lesson plans, experience and references.  Some tools that can be used to create this portfolio are Task Stream, iLife and Edu Tools.  This chapter is great for us as students to utilize when creating our own portfolio.  This is a great tool to present to a future employer when going on an interview for a job as it showcases all your accomplishments.  It it very impressive in lieu of handing over a piece of paper. This chapter also speaks about Student Participation Systems.  This is a wireless tool that offers real-time exchanges between students and teachers.  During a lesson students can answer multiple choice questions and students can answer with a yes...

TLNT-Chapter-10 Promoting success for ALL students through technology is an interesting chapter which speaks about differentiated instruction (DI) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).  Looking at UDL, students are offered instruction with multiple means of representation, expression and engagement.  The goal of UDL is to provide access for all students with disabilities and individualized options for all.  An example given is how a teacher uses PowerPoint to display vocabulary words and the definitions on the smart board so hearing impaired students can read the information while whole class engage in conversations.  Any other printed materials can also be transformed to digital screens with speech, sounds and pictures.  What a great way to modify materials so students feel included. TLBG-Chapter-3-Strategy 12 & 15 Strategy #12 Supporting students with special needs is broken down to two strategies: accommodations and modifications....

TLNT Chapter-7 Computer games as a learning resource is what stuck out most in this chapter.  As we all know computer, video and web-based games are most popular amongst children.  What a great way to implement computer game programs into lessons.  There are six basic characteristics associated with computer games. Rules Goals & objectives Outcomes & feedback Conflict/competition/challenge/opposition Interaction Representation or story Since computer games come in a variety of formats, knowledge games would work best when implementing a lesson.  Individuals are presented with a type of opposition that must be overcome.  Visual feedback on the individuals actions are given including rewards and accomplishments.  Some examples of math teaching games are Math Blaster, TreasureMathStorm, Numbers Undercover and Sunbuddy Math. TLBG- Chapter-3 Strategy-5 Gaming in the classroom simply means students playing games for educational/learni...
