TLNT (Chapter 9)
Some new technologies that were introduced in this chapter are Multimedia Technologies such as, podcasts and PowerPoint presentations. I am familiar with PowerPoints as I have created many and most professors use them when teaching. This is a multimedia presentation software system that gives its viewers text, data and images on a slideshow. A great feature of this tool is you can write notes on your slides that are only visible to only you which is great when making presentations and you forget what you want to say.
Podcasts are audio recordings (some include video) in which teachers can use educational topics in their lesson as an auditory tool to enhance a lesson. Teachers can record a discussion and students can listen to that lecture at a later time to assist in completing assignments or study for an exam. Students can also generate their own podcasts for essays assigned or any class projects they may be working on. Students are sometime hesitant using a video camera, but with a podcast they can record their voice and build their confidence.
These are some great tools to incorporate into the classroom

TLBG (Ch 3 Strategy 3, Strategy 4 )
This chapter is titled Strategies for the Classroom and is broken down by the number of different strategies you can learn about.
Strategy 3 speaks about how to use video in the classroom. One of the activities to try with the class is to put on a video with no sound and provide the students with a few questions about what they think the video is about, what is the theme and what sort of text would you include. This approach really gets the students to think and apply knowledge. This chapter also mentions how a teacher gave an assignment in math precalculus. This gives the students an opportunity to be creative, collaborate with others and learn how to use other sources of technology in their project. Students love this as it breaks up the monotony of pens and pencils.

Strategy 4 speaks about how to use quick response codes and augmented reality and other scannable technology. An AR code is a set of data, usually a square black and white image that can be scanned with a phone that redirects you to a URL. It lets the individual interact in real time activity with digital content. A QR is a 2d code that contains data in a second dimension also in a black and white square that stores URL's. A teacher can utilize this in a classroom by creating an AR or QR code to attach videos of lessons to anchor charts that are hanging around the classroom so student can utilize them as a reference tool later. Imagining using a code that will bring you right to where you need to be.

  1. I find it extremely important to think and apply knowledge in the classroom. Students often get stuck in the same routine every day of paper, pen, and notes. However, using different activities will keep the students engaged and gain a deeper understanding of the topic.

  2. I really love the idea of QR codes. QR codes allow students to open another world and will really engage students. The students in my classroom love anything with technology and work better when it is utilized. I also think powerpoints are essential if they are utilized properly. They must be visually engaging and they should not be a tool that you just read from. Great reflection!

  3. In some of the online classes I took at SJU, my professors actually used podcasts to record their lectures in addition to attaching a powerpoint to blackboard. I think these methods are used in college and I believe it would be beneficial for it to be implemented in middle or high school. As you said, students can listen to the podcasts for studying or completing an assignment. I feel it helps bridge learning in school to learning at home, as learning isn't only done at school.

  4. I like that you brought up the idea of podcast and videos. It is beneficial for students, especially auditory learners to hear it to understand the concept. Students can always look back and watch it again. Podcast are also a great tool for students with special needs. They can play back the video unlimited times and work at their own pace during a test.
