Tasks Before Apps- Chapter 3 This chapter mentioned Seasaw which was also a topic spoken about in class.  Seasaw was something that I was not familiar with and was surprised to read how it is used in this text under the subtitle Differentiation and Student Curiosity.  This section speaks about the importance of providing students with the tools necessary to complete a task via media.  This form of technology allows educators to differentiate work for all levels of students.  Providing students with what the book says "just right" materials is the perfect and easiest form of technology which makes it easy for teachers to differentiate.  One great example that the book gives is how a kindergarten class was given an assignment to create an All About Me project.  With the use of technology, they were given a variety of options.   Some students can create a slideshow of photos describing themselves, others may want to write via text or caption their p...

TLNT- Chapter-5 One take away with this chapter was electronic note taking.  Basically, most students in class are required to take notes on readings and teacher lectures to refer to later on when doing homework and preparing for tests.  The old fashioned way is using paper and pen which many still prefer to use.  Today most note taking is done electronically.  This is a quicker, efficient and more reliable way that many schools are now requiring students to utilize.  This chapter introduces us to NoteStar which is a tool that teachers and students can use to electronically record notes.  This app is free online and user friendly for all ages.  There is another option mentioned which is Office OneNote 2007 which is dedicated to Mac or PC computers.  This application is a digital notebook or notebooks that includes binders that can store many different types of data.  These are great options for students who are required to take lots of note...

Tasks Before Apps- Chapter 2 This chapter is one that involves students being creators of their own work.   When students are given the opportunity to learn new material through hands-on learning they are proud, ambitious and take ownership.   Exploring using technology opens doors in many other content areas helping students to make connections in and out of the classroom.   For example, the chapter mentions transferrable skills, which can be applied out of school, through multi-subjects and across disciplines.     Being a student who learns best through hands on learning I appreciate when professors incorporate technology in my class.   The first grade class I am student teaching in incorporates ipads during a reading lesson for differentiation, which is a big help, and change for those struggling to read.   When students have to share their work, teacher take pictures and pull it up on the smart board for the entire class to see.   The stu...

TLNT- Chapter 8 This chapter focuses on the many ways that both students and teachers can to communicate by using technology both in and out of the classroom.  Some of these include email, instant messaging, teacher or classroom websites, blogs, online discussions and wikis. Given this large variety the teacher must experiment to see which is the best fit for her classroom needs. This allows the teacher, students and classmates to be in constant contact with each other which fosters learning.  In the world we live in today, children are glued to their phones.  When the teacher utilizes technology with their students they extend the learning environment outside of the class, offers students to never miss an assignment and allow them to use the device that is relevant to them.  Overall this chapter provides many helpful hints for us as educators to incorporate to make learning easy and available.

Welcome to My Blog

Welcome to my blog.  My name is Kristine and this is my first time creating a blog.  I am student teaching at PS 1 in a first grade class.  I love this school and receive a tremendous amount of support from my mentor's.  This is my last semester here at SJU which is bitter sweet.  I am looking forward to starting my career and to further my degree in early childhood.  I've been a sub-paraprofessional for the last 2 years cause I wanted to expose myself to a variety of teaching styles.  I am a visual learner and I feel that is the best way to learn how to teach by seeing how you want to teach as well as how you do not want to teach.

Tasks Before Apps- Chapter 1 The gist of this chapter is to focus on how we as educators can incorporate technology into our classroom.  There are positive and negative aspects associated with technology.  Not all schools have the funds or resources for this and would not have to opportunity to utilize this in their class.  Schools that do have abundant resources can design lesson plans that can assist students who have varying learning styles.  This opportunity allows them to deepen their learning experiences by connecting with other students as well as learning from them.  As the chapter comes to an end the takeaway is to allow students to make connections with the subject matter and how to incorporate technology into making a community of learners. Nurturing Young Innovators- Chapter 2 Chapter 2 speaks about how the use of tablets in the class can help students become creative designers.  This offers them endless opportunities to be creative and sh...
